How to perform it

  1. Stand with a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, a slight bend in the elbows.
  2. Lead with the elbows and raise the dumbbells out to the sides until they reach shoulder height.
  3. Keep the pinkies slightly higher than the thumbs, as if pouring a jug.
  4. Lower slowly under control; do not let them swing back down.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging the torso and using momentum to throw the weights up.
  • Shrugging the traps instead of isolating the side delts.
  • Going too heavy and only reaching half the range.

Sets & reps

3-4 sets of 12-20 reps.
