How to perform it
- Stand with a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, a slight bend in the elbows.
- Lead with the elbows and raise the dumbbells out to the sides until they reach shoulder height.
- Keep the pinkies slightly higher than the thumbs, as if pouring a jug.
- Lower slowly under control; do not let them swing back down.
Common mistakes
- Swinging the torso and using momentum to throw the weights up.
- Shrugging the traps instead of isolating the side delts.
- Going too heavy and only reaching half the range.
